Having just returned from attending a local networking event this morning, I am glad I ignored my earlier inner ‘gremlins’ which told me that I should stay at home and concentrate on doing some work, rather than going along to the event. As a result, I met some inspiring business women, (many of whom are trying to juggle work with bringing up young families), and I also delivered an impromptu mini-speech for which I received some constructive feed back about my ‘performance’ and which gave me the opportunity to practise what I preach, ie, step out of my own comfort zone!
So this month’s newsletter is all about the ‘G’ word which so many of us, (women in particular), suffer from on a daily basis.I’m referring to our inner GUILT - which is a common barrier to us achieving more in our lives.
Many of my clients regularly tell me that they feel guilty for so many things.
How many of these can YOU identify with?
You may feel guilt for :
- Feeling tired all the time
- Not attending to housework
- Not being satisfied with your ‘lot’
- ‘Flying off the handle’ at loved ones
- Not being the perfect parent / carer etc
- Working instead of ......
I could go on but I’m certain that if you don’t identify with any of the above, many readers could add several of their own!
Guilt is a destructive emotion that can paralyse people; it’s important to realise that the only person punishing you, is yourself! We blame ourselves for so many things and forget to celebrate our successes, no matter how small. So here are some tips on how to stop feeling so guilty. ......

Thoughts for the month:
Every person is His / Her own hangman.
Seneca
Many working women feel guilty about not being at home, and when they are there, they wish it could be perfect. The pressure to make every minute count puts working parents in a bind when it comes to setting limits and modifying behaviour.

Men tend to feel threatened, women tend to feel guilty.

Small Steps to .....

Eliminating inner guilt.
Don’t feel guilty about being guilty !
Stop being your own judge and jury; failure and success are a matter of perception and today’s failure could be tomorrow’s success. Learn from your experiences
Accept that you are only human; acting in best way you know how ...
Never judge yourself or others; we all do or say things that we may regret later but the actions we take in any given moment are our truth at that time. So, if you make a mistake, learn your lesson and move on.
Forgive yourself
This is one of the hardest things to do as we tend to be our own harshest critic. So be patient and compassionate with yourself.
Avoid the words ‘I should’
If the guilt is coming from you, then you have unrealistic expectations from yourself. I often work with women who are exhausted because they put so many demands on themselves. Next time you hear yourself saying ‘I should do…….’ ask yourself who is telling you this. Is it you? Do you NEED to do that thing you feel you should be doing?
Stop living your life the way others’ appear to want you to
It’s your life after all, and you only get one chance to live it!
Stop feeling guilty because you are not perfect
Realise that no one is perfect and you cannot be the exception to the rule!
Live your life according to your own values and beliefs and no one else’s, as long as these values and beliefs work for you and not against you.
If you can identify with any of the above ...

Finally I am excited to tell my readers that I am currently writing a book on how to set up a small business which I hope to have finished and published by the end of the year.
I am also developing some workshops on setting up a business and I am looking for peoples personal experiences encountered when setting up their own business* in the last couple of years or so.
So if you would be willing to complete my short 8 question research survey please click the link on the book image opposite. Nothing will ever be printed without prior consent.
Thank you in advance for all submissions !
Until next month,
